Art works produced by Joel Nickel over the past 50 years fall into three primary categories: painting and graphic work, jewelry–metals and enamel work, and small scale sculpture.

Some of the work is connected to his pastoral vocation and the worship life of the Christian Church. Some of the work is connected to his interest in aesthetics and can be classified as “Abstract Geometric”.  Some of the work is craft oriented using wood and metal.
